About Bianca

Bianca Black (b. 1972, South Africa) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Hoedspruit, Limpopo. Working from her studio in the South African bushveld, her practice explores instinct, memory, and mark-making through a distinctly African visual language.

Black began painting in 2024 following a long career in interior design within the safari industry. Her work is defined by bold colour, layered surfaces, and symbolic forms inspired by African rock art and landscape.

In 2025, she was selected as one of nine artists to present large-scale works at LIV Golf South Africa.

Her work has been exhibited at White River Gallery and Papermoth Gallery, and featured in The World of Interiors.

She is represented in Mauritius by Boma Gallery, with work placed in luxury resorts including Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali.

Artist Statement

My work exists between instinct and structure. I build surfaces through layered mark-making using acrylic, oil pastel, and oil stick.

Influenced by the rhythms of the bushveld, my work explores repetition, memory, and symbolic language. At first glance the work feels playful, but beneath it lies a deeper exploration of identity, place, and the balance between chaos and control.

Ultimately, my work is about returning to instinct and reconnecting with a more intuitive way of seeing.
